How load shedding destroys SA batteries early
Battery manufacturers calculate cycle life assuming 1–2 charge cycles per day. SA Stage 4–6 load shedding imposes 3–4 deep discharge cycles daily. A battery rated for 6,000 cycles exhausts that rating in 3–4 years under heavy load shedding instead of the advertised 16 years.
The compounding problem: most homeowners don't know their battery SoH is declining. The inverter display shows charge percentage, not health. A battery at 65% SoH that reads "100% charged" delivers only 65% of rated backup time.
